Curriculum

The quality of our teaching experiences reflects the Statutory Framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

At Little Green Steps, we believe that children should achieve their full potential by exploring and engaging in real life experiences.

Therefore, we operate a home-based setting that promotes the development of all 7 areas of learning of the EYFS through a wide range of age-appropriate challenges, such as cooking, science experiments, poetry and acting, paintings, foreign languages, gardening, ICT, shopping experiences, trips to library and local walks to enhance children's social and emotional skills and allow them to meet the local community.

Babies (under 12 months)

The Babies are the sole age group who do not follow the daily routine as a whole. Since their very early age, we will work in close partnership with parents to better understand the routines of the babies in our care and ensure that these are followed individually.

Weaning is a very important phase for babies and you will be asked to share your baby's weaning stage with us before we can start feeding your little one. You are more than welcome to bring in your own formula/breastmilk from home and we will adhere with your baby's feeding pattern.

Babies will flourish in our home-from-home environment that encourages exploration and investigation through play

Please note that the "Baby to Childminder" Ratio is 1 : 1

Toddlers (1-2 years)

As we believe your child may be ready to be gradually introduced to our daily routine, you will be informed by a member of staff.

At this stage, our staff will mostly focus on the learning and development of the 3 Prime Areas of the EYFS, since we are of the opinion that your little one will need to be secure in these in order to thrive later on in life.

The Prime Areas of the EYFS are:

  1. Personal, Social and Emotional

  2. Communication and Language

  3. Physical Development

Nursery (2-3 years)

We begin to build up a sense of independence and self-confidence in your child from this stage. Your little one will be actively taking on new challenges as part of our daily routine. These include tidying up, self-serving meals, self-pouring drinks and many others under close supervision of our staff.

This is an important developmental stage for your child as they may be ready to say goodbye to their nappy, but DO NOT PANIC! We are here to offer all the support you need during this transition and we will work in partnership with you to ensure that your little one becomes confident in attending their toilet needs.

Besides the 3 Prime Areas of the EYFS, our nursery-age children will start exploring new topics and engage in activities involving stimulating challenges and reflecting the Specific Areas of Learning and Development. These are:

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding of the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Pre-School (3-5 years)

Here is when we prepare your child to get ready for school!

Your little one will explore a wide variety of topics with us and will be introduced to the "Letters and Sounds" Programme, that will enhance your child's awareness and knowledge of general sounds, from the simplest(environmental, instrumental, body percussion sounds) to the most complex ones (rhymes, alliteration, voice sounds and finally oral blending and segmenting of sounds).

Our play-based activities and real-life experiences will encourage your child to develop essential life skills such as reading, writing, reasoning with numbers/quantities and the concepts of money/time, 2D and 3D shape sorting and many others! We will assist you and your child in their transition to school and we will provide your little one with the best possible start in life!
